Villa "La Sirena Pequeña" near Novo Sancti Petri

The Area

Pago de Melilla is a semi rural area set back about one kilometre from the coast between the recently developed Novo Sancti Petri and the long established resort of La Barrosa which both sit on miles of fine sandy beach backed by sand hills or low cliffs.

La Sirena Pequeña - Sleeps 6 (Ref. NSP3)

La Sirena Pequeña (the little mermaid) is situated in a small development of private villas, probably more Spanish owned than English, surrounded by pine woods, vines and fruit and vegetable plots.

A five minute drive (or a 20 min walk via the pine woods and golf course) will get you to the new commercial centre at Novo Sancti Petri where you will find bars, restaurants, cafes, banks, a supermarket selling fresh bread all day, a mini market selling English newspapers (also open Sundays), shops and boutiques serving the recently developed hotels and apartments set along that section of the coast.

The nearby golf course is a first class, Severiano Ballesteros designed 36 holes with full facilities, just one of several in the area to choose from. There is easy access to other sports facilities including tennis, riding, and cycling and extensive water sports in season. Two of the most popular sports are surfboarding and kite surfing. There is a surf school and shop near to the beach at La Barrosa.

The nearest beach to drive, walk or cycle to is accessed from Novo Sancti Petri whilst a five minute drive takes you to the well established seaside resort of La Barrosa, which boasts a beautiful sandy Blue Flag beach bordered by an attractive promenade with bars and restaurants.

The area is patronised by local and visiting Spaniards as well as tourists from further afield. There is ample parking, on the edge of the beach if you wish, and during the season (June to early October) wooden chiringuitos (beach bars) serving tapas and drinks are erected on the sand

The Accommodation:

At the back of the garden is a pergola that offers shade in the hot summer months. A portable bbq is also supplied. The front porch is shaded for most of the day and furnished with armchairs, settee and a low table
There is a large living/dining room with English satellite tv, and vcr/dvd player.

It has a bay window and is very comfortably furnished with sofas, bookcases, small tables a writing desk and a wrought iron dining table.

A spacious fully fitted kitchen with gas hob, extractor fan and oven, a dishwasher and a fridge, as well as a small breakfast table (great for Mum & Dad to have a quiet breakfast!)

The master bedroom has a double bed, bedside chests of drawers and built-in wardrobes.

Amenities

Nearby there is a pharmacy, 24 hour medical clinic and both Supersol and Mercadona supermarkets a few more minutes away both having extensive fresh fish, meat, bakery and vegetable supplies as well as all the usual foodstuffs and hardware.

Beyond La Barrosa you come to the old and now disused, ‘pueblo marinara’ (fishing village) where there is now a marina and some bars and restaurants, this area is tremendously popular at weekends with local people and visitors.

The “city” of Chiclana is approximately eight kilometres away and here you will find everything you would expect in a town, including the indoor fish/meat/vegetable market which is open 6 days day a week, an outdoor market which is held on Tuesdays and a range of shops, churches and a cathedral. On the outskirts of town there is a very large supermarket – Eroski and a few more kilometres in the Cádiz direction the Bahía Sur commercial centre is an indoor shopping Mall including a Carrefour superstore

Within a kilometre of the villa you can find a couple of traditional ventas – bars which offer an all-inclusive ‘menú del día’, very popular with local working people, as well as good value food and drink throughout the day. Our favourite everyday eatery is Casa Ramon which has a sheltered terrace overlooking the sea but set back in a quiet area above the sand hills between Novo Sancti Petri and La Barrosa. The area has an excellent choice of restaurants from specialty seafood and grills to pizza and tapas.

The unspoilt, clean, superlative beach with the accent on the availability of numerous water sports is the area’s main draw but there is easy access to many other attractions – Jerez, Cádiz, Sevilla, Medina Sidonia (white hill town), Bahía de Cádiz Natural Park and so on. Alternatively, relaxing days can be spent at home within the completely enclosed garden enjoying the ample terraced and grassed areas, by the pool or in the shade.

Whilst a car is recommended it is possible to walk or cycle to the beach and other facilities and there is a regular bus service to Novo Sancti Petri, La Barrosa and Chiclana de la Frontera
