As a lecturer in Spanish based in Wales, I have travelled extensively in Spain over the years. I speak Spanish fluently and have a thorough knowledge of the social and cultural practices of the country. Eight years ago, I visited El Puerto de Santa María in Cádiz province to see a student of mine from the town. It is an area that has retained the traditional Spanish way of life and I quickly realized that this was the ideal location for the Spanish home I had sought for so long.
My partner and I purchased our first property in November 2000. Since then, I have come to know and love the area. I have made many good friends and look forward eagerly to the short spells we are able to spend there at present. By now, we have three properties in La Barrosa, near Chiclana de la Frontera, which are let as holiday accommodation when we are not there ourselves. One of these properties is a villa that we built ourselves. These experiences have given me an insight into the property and rental market in the area and experience of the purchasing and building process. I am very conscious of the importance of having the right contacts in these situations as a way of avoiding making mistakes.
I am aware that many British people are getting to know about the Costa de la Luz and are interested in visiting the area for a holiday or in purchasing property. As it is a very Spanish area, where English is not widely spoken, it can be difficult to communicate and to be sure of one's ground. I am happy to lend my expertise to ensure that prospective visitors or buyers gain the best possible experience.
